eWeLink Remote Control is a proprietary communication technology by SONOFF that uses a wireless protocol to connect devices directly to a compatible gateway. This solution enables fast and efficient interaction between devices and the user, ensuring a more stable and low-latency control experience.

How Does eWeLink Remote Control Work?
eWeLink Remote Control was developed to:
Quick Control: Enable immediate interaction with smart devices without requiring an Internet connection.
Local Automations: Create local scenarios and routines that function even if the Wi-Fi network fails.
Extended Range: Allow device connections in areas where the Wi-Fi signal might be weak.
Advantages of eWeLink Remote Control
Low Latency: Direct communication between the device and the gateway reduces response time.
Internet Independence: Enables offline operation, ideal for situations where the Internet is unavailable.
Easy Integration: Compatible SONOFF devices connect easily to the gateway, simplifying the setup process.
Stability: Reduced interference compared to technologies like Wi-Fi, ensuring a more stable connection.
Compatible Devices
Not all SONOFF devices support eWeLink Remote Control. Currently, the following models are compatible as gateways for this protocol:
SONOFF iHost
SONOFF NSPanel Pro
SONOFF DUAL R3 / R3 Lite
SONOFF MINIR4
SONOFF MINIR3
SONOFF BASICR4
SONOFF M5
SONOFF TX Ultimate
SONOFF S40
SONOFF B5-BL
For clients (devices that connect to the gateway), the models include:
R5 Scene Controller: A portable, wireless scene controller.
S-MATE/2: A module that adds smart features to traditional switches.
Each gateway can control up to 8 client devices. For example, a SONOFF MINIR4 can control devices like the R5 scene switch or S-MATE up to 8 devices.
Each client can only be added to one gateway. For instance, if the SONOFF S-MATE2 controlling a switch is paired with the SONOFF MINIR4, it cannot simultaneously be associated with any other gateway.
Maximum Distances in Open Field
S-MATE: 150 meters
R5: 90 meters
Note: In the presence of walls, the distance drops to 45 meters.
Difference from Zigbee
Although both eWeLink Remote Control and Zigbee are wireless protocols, there are significant differences:
Protocol Ownership: Zigbee is a global standard used by various brands, whereas eWeLink Remote Control is exclusive to SONOFF.
Compatibility: Zigbee allows the integration of devices from different manufacturers, whereas eWeLink Remote Control works solely with SONOFF devices.
Complexity: eWeLink Remote Control has a simpler setup process, as all devices belong to the same ecosystem.
Latency: While Zigbee is efficient, eWeLink Remote Control stands out for its low latency and better performance in local applications.
